chat_bubble WMSPL Power Rankings - Week 5

As some teams approach the quarter-pole in the season-long race, some have already blown past it. With 25% of the season complete, and the first real test of mettle (the mid-season tournament) in the rear-view mirror, where are we at?

#1. Broadway
(Rank last week: 1)
Record: 8-1-1 (0-1-1 this week)
1st place in the President's Division (1st in WMSPL)

After an impressive tournament championship over the weekend, Broadway went winless this week, earning a tie with Storm on Sunday then falling to the VP Division leading Falcons on Wednesday. That's not enough to knock them from top spot in the power rankings, because they're just that good.

#2. A's
(Rank last week: 2)
Record: 7-1-2 (2-0-0 this week)
2nd place in the President's Division (2nd overall in WMSPL)

The A's DID NOT enter a team in the tournament over the weekend, so were well rested when they played Hanet (also well-rested). They squeaked out a 1-run victory, and took sole possession of 2nd place in the league. They maintained this lead with a decisive defeat of the Rebels on Tuesday.

#3. Storm
(Rank last week: 3)
Record: 7-2-1 (1-0-1 this week)
3rd place in the President's Division (Tied for 3rd overall in WMSPL)

Storm ended Broadway's winning streak, but couldn't finish the job with a win. That dropped them to 3rd place in the President's Division, and into a tie with the Falcons for 3rd overall in the league. Since they can't stop destroying the Falcons and hold a better run differential, they hold on to 3rd in the Power Rankings this week.

#4. Falcons
(Rank last week: 4)
Record: 8-3-0 (2-0-0 this week)
1st place in the Vice President's Division (Tied for 3rd in WMSPL)

The Falcons beat 12th ranked Re/Max on Sunday with a 10-man team, and scored a major upset with a win against #1 Broadway on Wednesday. They're a third of the way to a free beer night... can they make it?

#5. Brew Crew
(Rank last week: 5)
Record: 6-5-0 (1-1-0 this week)
2nd place in the Vice President's Division (5th in WMSPL)

Without having played in the tournament, they were ready for action on Sunday to defeat Surge. Unfortunately, they couldn't hold that momentum against Storm on Tuesday. Their record may be a wolf in sheep's clothing as they also sport a -58 (!) run differential. That doesn't bode well for the future.

#6. SI Play
(Rank last week: 8)
Record: 5-6-0 (1-1-0 this week)
5th place in the President's Division (7th in WMSPL)

SI Play rebounded nicely after an 0-2 week last week by resting over the weekend and NOT sending a team into the tournament. This led to a win over Coulas, but they fell to Re/Max on Monday, giving Re/Max their first win of 2018.

#7. Hanet Plastics
(Rank last week: 6)
Record: 5-5-1 (1-1-0 this week)
4th place in the President's Division (6th in WMSPL)

No tournament for Hanet either. A nail biter loss to the A's on Sunday following by an ass-kicking of Greenthumb on Monday leaves them where they've been all season: .500.

#8. Rebels
(Rank last week: 6)
Record: 4-7-0 (0-2-0 this week)
Tied for 3rd place in the Vice President's Division (Tied for 9th in WMSPL)

The Rebels took it on the chin against Greenthumb, and got smacked around by the A's. Not the best week, and they drop in the rankings because of it.

#9. Greenthumb
(Rank last week: 10)
Record: 3-6-0 (1-1-0 this week)
Tied for 3rd place in the Vice President's Division (Tied for 9th in WMSPL)

You win one, you lose one, you go nowhere in the power rankings. But sometimes you move up just because other teams don't report their scores.

#10. Coulas Bone Crushers
(Rank last week: 9)
Record: 3-5-1 (? this week)
6th place in the President's Division (8th in WMSPL)

You know what happens when you don't report the scores of your games? You drop in the rankings.

#11. Re/Max Crossroads
(Rank last week: 12)
Record: 1-8-0 (1-1-0 this week)
5th place in the Vice President's Division (11th in WMSPL)

At least Re/Max has entered a team in the tournament this weekend, which is more than can be said for 8 other teams in the league. They lost to the VP Division leading Falcons on Sunday, but beat a President's Division team (SI Play) on Monday! That moves them out of 12th place, at least temporarily. Simply knowing they read these rankings could keep them out of the cellar permanently.

#12. Surge
(Rank last week: 11)
Record: 1-9-0 (? this week)
6th place in the Vice President's Division (12th in WMSPL)

Again, you don't report your scores, how are we to know if you've done well?
