chat_bubble WMSPL Power Rankings - Week 6

Baseball, man! Sunday this week in the WMSPL was BANANAS! B-A-N-A-N-A-S! Up was down, left was right, safe was out. The nuts-o Sunday caused a big shake-up at the top of the Power Rankings this week. Momentum is key in a sport where you play this often. Can the teams with negative momentum turn it around? Let's get to it!

#1. A's
(Rank last week: 2)
Record: 10-1-2 (3-0-0 this week)
1st place in the President's Division (1st overall in WMSPL)

We have a new leader! The A's have won SEVEN in a row and are unbeaten in eight, their last loss coming against the Vice President's Division leading Falcons on May 22. The streak has propelled them to the top of the standings in the President's Division, thanks in part to a slumping Broadway team. The A's next game, against Storm, will be a test of their mettle.

#2. Storm
(Rank last week: 3)
Record: 9-3-1 (2-1-0 this week)
3rd place in the President's Division (3rd overall in WMSPL)

Storm started the week losing an obvious trap game to Coulas, as they were totally focused on their 9:30 game against Broadway which was to follow. They did in fact beat Broadway, and followed on Tuesday with a win over Greenthumb by double digits. #1 in the Rankings is on the line on Sunday at 5:00, don't miss it!

#3. Broadway
(Rank last week: 1)
Record: 10-3-1 (1-2-0 this week)
2nd place in the President's Division (2nd in WMSPL)

Until their 21-16 win over the Rebels on Wednesday, Broadway hadn't won since they blew their load all over the mid-season tournament and hammered that cheque. Everyone guns for the teams at the top, and this Sunday's match-up against Hanet isn't going to be a cake-walk. Is the win over the Rebels a sign of a rebound, or just a small uptick in an overall decline?

#4. Coulas Bone Crushers
(Rank last week: 10)
Record: 7-6-1 (2-1-0 this week)
4th place in the President's Division (Tied for 5th in WMSPL)

By far the biggest jump in the rankings this week is Coulas, who moved up to 4th from 10th. This is a result of beating Storm on Sunday and finishing their week with a win over Brew Crew. They've leapfrogged two teams in their division and now sit 4th. But allowing 18 runs per game suggests this move isn't permanent.

#5. Brew Crew
(Rank last week: 5)
Record: 7-6-0 (1-1-0 this week)
2nd place in the Vice President's Division (Tied for 5th in WMSPL)

A win over Coulas on Wednesday would have put them in the 4 spot this week, and they only lost by 1. This is a dangerous team to face when they're on their game.

#6. Falcons
(Rank last week: 4)
Record: 9-4-0 (1-1-0 this week)
1st place in the Vice President's Division (4th in WMSPL)

BAD FALCONS! BAD! The Falcons showed that they are who we thought they were, losing to 8-man Greenthumb on Sunday. The (temporary?) loss of the Mattural is having an impact both on the scorecard and emotionally to the team. Can they keep it together to beat Surge on Sunday?

#7. SI Play
(Rank last week: 6)
Record: 6-7-0 (1-1-0 this week)
5th place in the President's Division (7th in WMSPL)

The emotional high of the win over Hanet on Sunday was dissipated by the heartbreaker loss to the Falcons on Monday.

#8. Hanet Plastics
(Rank last week: 7)
Record: 5-7-1 (0-2-0 this week)
6th place in the President's Division (8th in WMSPL)

Not a good week for Hanet, as they lost to SI Play on Sunday and their seventh inning come back attempt against Surge on Monday fell short. They drop below .500, into last in the division, and continue their slide down the rankings.

#9. Rebels
(Rank last week: 8)
Record: 5-8-0 (1-1-0 this week)
3rd place in the Vice President's Division (9th in WMSPL)

A so-so week for the Rebels, beating one team they were supposed to beat (Surge), and losing the game they were supposed to lose (Broadway). An even week moves you down in the rankings when other teams have better weeks.

#10. Greenthumb
(Rank last week: 9)
Record: 4-8-0 (1-1-0 this week)
4th place in the Vice President's Division (10th in WMSPL)

After nearly losing by default on Sunday, 8 Greenthumbs defeated their division leader. A loss to Storm on Tuesday, however, halted any forward progress.

#11. Surge
(Rank last week: 12)
Record: 2-11-0 (1-1-0 this week)
5th place in the President's Division (11th in WMSPL)

Big, big win over Hanet on Monday evening caused mild jubilation on the Surge bench after the game. Can they keep it up?

#12. Re/Max Crossroads
(Rank last week: 11)
Record: 1-11-0 (0-2-0 this week)
6th place in the Vice President's Division (12th in WMSPL)

Sorry Drew. Surge wins, Surge moves up.
