chat_bubble 2019 WMSPL Power Rankings - Week 6

There were no Power Rankings last week. Rumours suggesting that I didn't want to post rankings with Storm as #1 are almost completely untrue. It's true that ranking Storm as #1 leaves a bad taste in one's mouth, but that's not the reason for missing a week. Besides, Storm probably wouldn't have been first anyway. Broadway was #1 last week, then went and won the tournament. They'd have stayed at the top.

Moving on, Storm is #1. [Barfs]

We've been having some decent weather, which means games are getting played, and we're seeing the teams separate into championship contenders and those contending for the "Travelled The Least Distance To Get Here" trophy. That's a thing, right?

The weather wasn't nice enough to play on Monday, and the town curiously pulled permits before most of us had had our second cups of coffee. I'm sure it went:

George Douma: "Hi Town of Whitby Parks and Rec Rep! It's George Douma, Past President of the WMPSL for the fourth year in a row for some reason. You're pulling the permits for tonight's games, right?"
Whitby Rep: "Oh, geez... I dunno there. Yeah it's raining now, but you guys have missed so many games that I don't think it's prudent to pull the permits just yet."
George Douma: "YOU SAID PULL THE PERMITS! NO TAKESY-BACKSIES! I'LL INFORM THE LEAGUE! DON'T CALL ME BACK I'M WATCHING THE RAPTO...." [CLICK] (the phone absolutely went 'click'. You just know George still has a land line, which he uses with a rotary dial phone.)

#1. STORM
(4-0-0 This Week; 8-0-1 Overall; 1st in President's Division)
(Rank last week: 3)

Storm remains undefeated with a single tie in their record as the only blemish. They continue to roll over their opponents, averaging a 10+ run margin of victory in their 8 wins. They're going to be good for the whole season, and will be near the top of the standings and indeed these here rankings as well.

#2. FALCONS
(1-1-1 This Week; 8-2-1 Overall; 2nd in President's Division)
(Rank last week: 2)

Strong games with disappointing outcomes on Sunday leave the Falcons in 2nd place in both the Power Rankings and the President's Division. With Hobo on extended leave, will the Falcons' all-of-a-sudden SLF-Taint-filled line up revert to last season's early inning uselessness?

#3. BROADWAY
(1-1-1 This Week; 7-3-1 Overall; 3rd in President's Division)
(Rank last week: 1)

Broadway won the mid-season tournament, and seems to have lost something since then. They're only 2-2-1 since the big victory, including getting trounced by the A's the Sunday following the tourney. If a .500 record over a two-week span is the worst slump they see over the season, we should all be worried.

#4. HANET PLASTICS
(2-0-0 This Week; 4-2-1 Overall; 1st in Vice President's Division)
(Rank last week: 8)

Huge jump for Hanet this week, moving up 4 spots and taking the lead in the VP Division. As usual, the leader of the VP division tends to be one of the teams that moved down from the President's division for the year. Can they stay in first long enough to cash a cheque before moving back up?

#5. REBELS
(1-1-0 This Week; 4-3-1 Overall; 4th in President's Division)
(Rank last week: 5)

The Rebels take the 5 spot by themselves thanks to a bit of a better week than the A's, who went winless this week. The defending Playoff Tournament champs are holding their own after the move up from the VP division, showing a positive run differential.

#6. IG WEALTH
(1-0-2 This Week; 3-3-2 Overall; Tied for 5th in President's Division)
(Rank last week: 7)

One of these days, the new "sponsor" will pony up for the new uniforms they promised the team.

#7. A'S
(0-2-0 This Week; 4-4-0 Overall; Tied for 5th in President's Division)
(Rank last week: 5)

The A's have lost two in a row after demolishing Broadway the day after the mid-season tournament. They'll move back up the rankings quickly once they start winning (and actually playing games) again.

#8. BREW CREW
(1-2-0 This Week; 5-6-0 Overall; 2nd in Vice President's Division)
(Rank last week: 9)

Brew Crew moves up mostly because of a better legacy record and not completely blowing it over the last week. Plus, they get extra points for the walk-up music. Never stop the walk-up music.

#9. COULAS BONE CRUSHERS
(1-1-0 This Week; 3-7-0 Overall; 4TH in Vice President's Division)
(Rank last week: 11)

Coulas has an unreported score as of press time and thanks to the giant gap in the number of total games played between them and other teams in the division, it's difficult to determine who is better than whom. Ah well, 9th it is.

#10. RE/MAX CROSSROADS
(0-2-0 This Week; 3-6-1 Overall; 3rd in Vice President's Division)
(Rank last week: 4)

Seems the bottom has fallen out for The Moustache Formerly Known As Drew and Re/Max. They were ranked 4th going into the tournament, and even though they beat the currently #2 ranked team in these power rankings, they haven't won a game since. I guess they'll be voting YES on the mush ball?

#11. GREENTHUMB
(1-1-0 This Week; 2-5-0 Overall; 5th in Vice President's Division)
(Rank last week: 10)

Greenthumb avoided defaulting to the A's on Monday thanks to the weather. The A's also avoided defaulting to Greenthumb on Monday thanks to the weather. My point is, no one wanted to play that game because Raptors.

#12. SURGE
(0-2-0 This Week; 0-10-0 Overall; 6th in Vice President's Division)
(Rank last week: 12)

Surge is still looking for their first win of the season, and are also looking for a ringer to pick with the #1 choice in the 2020 WMSPL draft.
