assignment Falcons Hold VP Lead
Sunday 8:00PM July 22nd, 2018
To start their Sunday doubleheader, the Falcons held off the charging Rebels 14-5 to retain their lead in the WMSPL VP Division.

The Rebels came into this game having won four in a row and 7 of their last 9 games. They came in hot. With only 1 game separating these teams in the standings, it was going to be intense.

The Falcons, visitors in this game, started the game with a two-spot in the top of the first inning, but still only managed to send 5 men to the plate. The Rebels, who were without WMSPL HR leader Lee, cut that lead in half with a solo job by Jeff (his "first of the year", per the player). Hobo's two-run homer in the top of the second highlighted a 3-run effort for the visitors, and the Falcon D held firm in the bottom half to give the Falcons a 5-1 lead after two.

Miner Leaguer fouled out in the top of the third inning.

Stevie B took a share of the team lead in three-baggers with his fifth, also in the third. But the important thing to remember here is that Miner fouled out. More on strikeouts later.

The Rebels added another run in the third, to pull to within 4 going into the fifth. In that fifth inning, the Falcon bats finally awakened, seemingly as if they're nocturnal. Sun goes down, bats wake up. That's just science. Seven of the first eight Falcons banged out hits to start the top of the fifth, with Chequebook making it rain in a different way cleaning the inning up with a 3-run shot. In total, the Falcons scored seven. Then with two out, Teets singled to bring up Pikachu. Pikachu, as anyone who knows him would attest, swings at ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING when he has two strikes. With two strikes and two out, Pikachu swung. Hard. And whiffed. At what would have been a ball. Everyone was watching. Full pizza.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, with the Rebels now down 13-2, Jeff hit his second dong of the game, this time a 2-run shot to highlight a 3-run inning. That, unfortunately for the Rebels, would be as close as they would get.

Two Home Runs In One Inning Watch: The last time a Falcon hit two home runs in one inning was August 29, 2012.

Game Notes: The win gave the Falcons some breathing room in the VP Division, increasing their lead to 2 games... Miner Leaguer, the showboat, made a "highlight" catch to end the game, even though neither his wife, his co-ed softball team, nor his "volleyball friends" were in attendance to witness it... Mrs. Million Dollars was, though.
