assignment Big Inning Buoys Brew Crew
Sunday 9:30PM July 22nd, 2018
Brew Crew put up nine runs in the top of the first and cruised the rest of the way to defeat their Vice President's Division rival Falcons 17-13 in the curtain closer of the Sunday night doubleheaders.

Brew Crew came into this one on a big high, having just defeated Surge by 13 runs. Their bats stayed hot in the top of the first inning. They sent 14 men to the plate, hit the ball hard and found all the holes. The usually holey (not holy) Falcon defence played well, but the ball just landed where the Falcons weren't. Nine scored, and the Falcons found themselves in a big hole right away. After that display, Teets was sent to the showers, with the incredibly awkwardly named Terminator Pouenke called upon to provide 6 innings' work. He'd need help.

For the first time in forever, maybe even never, the Falcons led off their half of the first inning with back-to-back triples. After that feat by Miner Leaguer and Stevie B, Chequebook pounded an RBI single and the Falcons were in flight. Maybe the Terminator wouldn't need to work so hard to keep Brew Crew scoreless to give the Falcons a chance to come back. Then the next three Falcons went 3-up, 3-down, and the inning was over. 9-2 after one for the visitors.

Poutine did his job. Brew Crew put up delicious doughnuts in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th innings. Unfortunately, the @shittyfalcons were just that, and put up doughnuts of their own. Going into the 5th, the Falcons trailed 9-4.

Brew Crew added some insurance, which they'd need, in the fifth, scoring 5. The Falcons finally got to some hitting in the bottom half. Nine hits and a sacrifice fly later, the Falcons found themselves only down by three. Being the home team, they saw their chance at a huge come back victory.

The Falcon D held the Crew to another zero in the top of the sixth, and the Falcons were ready to attack. Someone must have told them it was the first inning, because they went Double, FK, groundout, fly-out. Ziltch. End momentum.

Brew Crew scored 3 much needed insurance runs in the top of the seventh, and the Falcons couldn't respond.

How much do the Falcons love their stats? After Sunday's doubleheader, SLF wasn't able to get around to updating the database until Tuesday morning. Here's a tally of who came looking in the 32 hours in between:

- Miner Leaguer began checking (adorably!) at 11:58 PM Sunday, then EIGHT times before the stats went up Tuesday.
- Stevie B got started even earlier, logging in at 11:07 PM Sunday, and came back another 3 times after that.
- Dr. J, who is always the first to email to point out a discrepancy in the stats, checked 7 times.
- Poutine and Teets were each in 6 times.

The other Falcons are to be commended for their patience.

Two Home Runs In One Inning Watch: The last time a Falcon hit two home runs in one inning was August 29, 2012.

Game Notes: Since the Rebels beat Surge in game two of their doubleheader, the Falcons lead in the VP division remains at merely one... Big game upcoming for the Falcons, as they look to remain undefeated against Broadway in 2018...

The Hot (Take) Corner: I used actual, pre-helicopter-parenting lawn darts on the weekend. I have no idea why these things needed to be taken off the market. It's clearly moulded into the flights of each 6 lb. dart: Not a children's toy. Do not give to children. Do not use around children. No kids. None! Stop!

So: just keep these things away from kids, just like you would do if you bought Elon's flamethrower, a wood-burning kit or a BB gun. It's a generation of wusses!

Bill's Parking Spots, Ranked:
1. Our nice spot in the south-east corner
2. The one near the playground (and nearer the shitter)
3. In the south-west corner, near where you can pee
4. Kind of in the middle, but too close to the street
5. At the plaza north of the fields
6. In the southern parking lot right next to that cop that was patrolling over both games

Congrats, Dunner! I think inventing a "Google-able" word is better than discovering a comet!

We patiently wait for the witty write ups and not the stats since they're often wrong anyway. I believe I had 2 RBI on my triple turned into a double by the ump.

Given the ugly loss, checking the site for an SLF update is the only way to make sure he hasn’t given up on life and thrown lawn darts at himself... anything past 10am the next day and I get worried.

Notable stat: Banner going 6/6 in the doubleheader. I’d double check the details on this but don’t want to be shamed for logging in again.

6 for 6 at the plate and 0 for 5 in the field because he's always daydreaming.

I was having a good dream out there when you disturbed me for what......to catch a ball! Now I can’t remember what I was dreaming about, maybe I’ll remember tomorrow night

SLF commented on how he draws pictures for a living, records podcasts at work and was going golfing at Monday. I checked the site with the assumption that a double header recap would take president over SLF's other life activities this week.

Man, you really misread that situation.

I'm with Stevie B, nothing you do outside of playing for the Falcons should be as important as writing about the Falcons.

Though I'm certainly not in the "EVERYTHING IS MORE IMPORTANT THATN SLO-PITCH" camp, I have a perfectly valid explanation that I'll deliver this evening. Not that it'll mater... RECAPS OR GTFO etc.
