assignment Falcons Take Opener
Wednesday 8:00PM August 18th, 2021
The Falcons' D was able to keep the A's to 2 runs or less in all but one inning, and some timely hitting provided more than enough offence as they beat the A's 15-9 in the curtain-raiser on Wednesday evening.

The Falcons were down to only 9 players to start, and had an abundance of outfielders for once. That meant that SLF had to start the game playing first base, and it was immediately apparent why that's a bad idea. He got trucked by Jon chasing down Grahambo's errant throw on the first batter of the game. Fortunately, no one was hurt, and SLF slunk to right field for the rest of the night where the A's then hit him the ball a total of twice over two games.

But I digress.

The A's "stormed" out of the gate in the top of the first, scoring four on two, two-run dingers. This put the A's up +2 in homers, and set the Falcons up for the "keep it in the field" strategy... which lasted all the way to the bottom of the second inning. The Falcons were getting something going in the bottom of the first, and had already scored one when The Mattural was nailed with Pizzaco's hot grounder for the third out. Surely, a pizza fine is the punishment for a rally-killing SFP? No. After the game the ump confirmed that since the ball ricocheted off the shortstop's glove, Matt shouldn't have been called out.

After losing the first, the Falcons' D clamped it down, holding the A's to delicious doughnuts in the next three innings. Million Dollar Bill was dealing. In the meantime, Grahambo's 3-run shot highlighted a four-run second, and the Falcons put up five in the third.

The A's were able to hit a two-run bomb to score two in the fifth, but the Falcons answered with (Darren Dutchyshen voice) "Bay-ack to bay-ack to bay-ack jay-acks" to put up a four-spot.

Carlo's solo shot highlighted the A's two-run sixth, and they were able to put up another in the seventh, but couldn't close the gap.

Game notes: With the win, the Falcons have won two of three... Poutine's absence offered a rare serenity to the Falcons' dugout for the game... Welcome back, Brett Bichette!
