assignment Dunner Begins New On-Base Streak
Monday 9:30PM July 11th, 2022On a windy evening with intermittent rain, the Falcons managed to pull out a 22-14 win over a shorthanded Broadway squad.
The top of the first inning ended on an odd note, and one that would continue into the bottom half: someone stepping somewhere they shouldn’t. Andrew was the third out for Broadway after beating out a single but stepping on the white part of the base rather than the orange safety part. Broadway walked away with one in the top half. In the bottom of the first, Cowboy’s lead off double was cashed by Grahambo’s triple, and Grahambo was, in-turn, cashed by Beatty. While trying to continue the hit parade, Poutine hit a single but was called out for stepping in front of the plate. This will now and forever be known as “Pulling A Mike”, which I’m sure we can all agree would be the CLEANEST act to ever be named after Poutine.
After holding Broadway to a delicious doughnut in the second, the Falcons put up a MAX6 highlighted by yet another Beatty Blast, his fifth in as many games. That gives Beatty 9 on the season and puts him 6th in the league in that category.
Broadway’s bats then woke up, and they scored 11 runs over their next two sets of at bats, highlighted by, and I can’t emphasize this enough, Ryan Colpitts’ first career jack (a majestic blast that unfortunately didn’t count because Broadway was up +2). Fortunately for the Falcons, they were able to keep pace with their second MAX6 of the game. After 4, the score was 15-12 for the home side.
The Broadway bats then went back to sleep for the rest of the game, and they were only able to put up two more over the next three innings. The Falcons, on the other hand, kept hitting, and put this one to bed.
Game notes: Homie’s scoresheet doodle, in the “Absent” field of the scoresheet: “Mike A, on vacay 🌴” for the home side, 🤷for the visitors…
