assignment Falcons Win in Return from Default Weekend
Wednesday 8:00PM June 21st, 2023
On the longest day of the year, the Falcons treated their zero fans in attendance to a way-closer-than-the-scoreboard-shows 20-14 win over Coulas.

With Cowboy signed out, Poutine led off the night with a double, moved to 3rd on a Barry Guerrero Jr single and cashed on a Dunner FC to put the Falcons on the board. And just like the last time these teams played, Coulas used a mix of speed and power at the top of the order to post multiple runs of their own and take an early 4-1 lead.

In the 2nd, the Falcons OBP squad went to work, logging 6 singles and a Poutine sac fly to take a 5-4 lead. Coulas responded again with two in the bottom half to stay ahead after 2.

And so the game went in a back-and-forth 1-run affair. In the 5th, the Falcons loudly asked if it was an open inning, and then promptly went 3-up, 3-down. Coulas suffered none of the same embarrassment, smashing a deep HR to CF and scoring 4 to take a late 14-11 lead.

But the back end of the Falcons lineup continued their death-by-a-thousand-papercuts strategy, posting nothing but singles and scoring on big hits by the top of the order, and punctuated by a Beatty moonshot to score 9 in the last two innings and putting this one to bed.

Game Notes: With the bottom of the lineup getting on base so often, that made conditions ripe for cashing all of those ducks once the lineup turned over: Dunner had 8 (!!) RBIs and Poutine had 6, and the top four guys in the lineup accounted for 19 of the 20 RBIs on the night… with the definition of “room” up in the air, Poutine was almost sent crashing into the CF fence with the team yelling “You got room!”… on the hottest night of the season so far, the skeeters, flies and bugs too big to have wings were all out in full force… after defaulting last weekend’s doubleheader, the win puts the Falcons back above .500... with the PizzaCo piggy bank accumulating, when will the Falcons cash in and enjoy some fresh post-game pies?
