In a very competitive playoff-like game, the Falcons got back in the win column with a 14-12 win over the Expos.

It’s sort of amazing this game got the full 7 innings in, as both teams arrived to find K1 populated with 100 Timbit little leaguers and their families having a casual Wednesday night picnic up until 8:02pm. Some dad eventually noticed there was a WMSPL game with super important 5th place implications on the line and scooted back to their poorly parked minivans.

In the 1st, a Dunner single and Poutine double were immediately cashed by Beatty and Barry Guerrero Jr to stake the visitors to a short-lived 2-0 lead. The Expos, already holding wins over the Falcons, Broadway and Storm (x2!), went to work, plating three of their own for an early one run lead.

From there, both teams clamped down on defense, and neither team could scratch across more than 3 runs in an inning until the 6th, where a Beatty bomb to LF gave the Falcons some breathing room and a 12-5 lead. The Expos answered right back with 4 of their own to cut the lead to 12-9 heading into the 7th.

Singles from Shohei, Cowboy, Dunner and Beatty added 2 insurance runs that the Falcons would ultimately need, as the Expos sent a train of batters to the plate to try to walk this one off. With the bases loaded and 2 out, a shot to the gap scored all 3 runners to make it 14-12. The runner tried to get to third as Cowboy’s throw hit Poutine, who fired a bullet to Million Dollar Bill and caught the Expo in a rundown to end the game.

GAME NOTES: We sincerely hope the Expo RF is ok today after taking a Poutine liner to the face 2 minutes into the game. At the very least, he can make up a story about how he brawled with the unruly parents who refused to leave the field at 8pm… MDB smoked a legit triple to the RCF gap for his first of the year… the Falcons exhausted their courtesy runners to the point where Shohei (after getting subbed off himself earlier in the game) pinch ran for Beatty in the 7th… Beatty staying red hot, going 4 for 4 with a SF… in the 4th, Dwayne hit a grounder that went off Ash’s glove, was snagged by Dr J and flipped to Shohei hustling to first for the rare 3-4-1 putout… the Falcons will meet the Expos one more time in the season finale, with playoff seeding implications likely on the line.
