assignment Two Bad Innings...
Sunday 8:00PM August 24th, 2025
A couple bad innings ruined what could have been a seed-changing win for the Falcons, as they dropped the opener of Sunday's doubleheader 12-8 to Storm. The loss puts the Falcons a game and a half behind Storm for the 3-seed in the WMSPL playoff tournament.

The Falcons began the game well enough. Cowboy doubled to lead off the game, because it was a day that ends in 'y'. He immediately scored on Grahambo's RBI single, proving that an SLF tainted lineup isn't always wrong. Sadly, one was the loneliest number in the top of one, and that was it for scoring for the visitors. The Falcons then put on a defensive clinic for an entire half-inning, holding Storm's leadoff hitter, Mills, to a single (one can not stop Mills, one can only hope to contain him), then retiring Joey, Duran and Renee in order.

In the second, the Falcon bats kept on hitting, scoring three. In the bottom half, the Falcon D held Storm to only 3 batters. It was kinda looking good!

Two more in the third for the visitors, and the Falcons were up 6-0 after 2.5 innings. Another hold for the defence would be huge. For Storm in the bottom of the third, every batter reached base and the Falcons only recorded one out before the inning ended with a Storm MAX6. Sad trombone, indeed.

Not to worry! The bats were hot for the Falcons in the first three trips up this game, so more was expected. Right. 5-up, 3-down, and a delicious doughnut left the game tied. Storm broke the tie in a big way, scoring 5. The Storm bats dried up after that, but it didn't matter. The Falcons only managed another two runs in the top of the seventh.

Game Notes: After what seemed like forever, the law of playing Storm was: "Don't hit it to Joey". It seems the torch has now been passed to Mills. But now, it's even harder. It's not enough to simply say "Don't hit it to Mills", because the guy has unbelievable range. Balls hit to the right field corner are in his radar, and he makes them look routine. You still shouldn't hit it to Joey, but a Falcon did beat out an infield hit to short because Joey's TV dive didn't look as cool as he'd hoped. But now add that you can't hit even a mild fly ball anywhere to the right of the left fielder because Mills will be camped under it, and the frustration of playing Storm continues.
