assignment Best Team In WMSPL Keeps Besting
Friday 9:30PM May 1st, 2026
The best team in the league (only one game had been played and they won it, thus best) won again, squeaking out an 11-9 win over the Crew to cap off the 2026 WMSPL opening day.For the first time since 2021, the Falcons are 2-0. And for the first time EVER, they won both on the same day to open the season.
The Falcons offence picked up where they left off in game one, a welcome change to the historical Waiting For Godot-style offence we're used to. Speed Bump opened the the bottom of the first after the Falcons had held the Crew to no runs in the top half, with a single. Grahambo followed with a double that somehow didn't score Speed Bump from first... I guess no one can run from Father Time. No matter, though, Beatty (Mr Positivity!) brought them all home with his second home run of the season to stake the home Falcons to a 3-0 lead after one.
The Falcon defence held the Crew to no runs through three innings. In the second, though, they put up another 3-spot highlighted by John's first home run as a Falcon, a Duncan that had better not become habit. One doesn't want bad things named after you, right? We already have a guy who has three types of "bad" homers named after him.
In the top of the fourth, the Crew put up 4 to close the gap, but the Falcons matched it in their half, on three doubles and a couple singles.
Up 11-5 in the top of the seventh, the Falcons allowed a 4-run rally by the Crew to turn up the proverbial temperature (because the ACTUAL thermometer sure as hell didn't go up) but shut it down in time to preserve the victory.
GAME NOTES: A tremendous showing by our draft picks in the opening doubleheader: Matt is batting .857; John is .714 and each socked a dinger. Kevin, on whom we used our pick-a-friend, is batting .286 and only made two plays in the field over the first two games. Speed Bump's ringing endorsement is now in question... Grahambo lit up the stat sheet in this one, going 4-for-4 with four two-baggers... Contributions to the pizza fund slowed down, with only Shohei contributing a $5 FK... If you were paying attention in the third inning, you'd have seen the most casual 5-4-3 double play in the history of sports, with John knowing EXACTLY how much time he had to twist it.
