It was an omen of things to come, as Labrecque was nowhere to be found at gametime, thinking for some reason we played at 9:30pm tonight. Hey Mikey, here is how you can get the schedule to automatically update in your calendar bud: https://www.falconsslopitch.com/subscribe.php?year=2026
The show must go on, so the Falcons borrowed a catcher from Greenthumb and got to work. The away team scored four runs early, and the Falcons did not win the inning only plating 1. Donuts in the 2nd for both teams meant a 4-1 deficit after two.
Another Greenthumb delicious donut made for a quick top of the third. The boys in blue got to sticking in the bottom half, powered by an RBI double from John, and a 2 RBI DC triple. 6 Falcons crossed the plate for a 7-4 lead after three. The Taxman on the mound, and the Falcons D, held Greenthumb to a third delicious donut in a row, and only one for the good guys in the fourth, made it 8-4.
A big 5 run fifth inning from Greenthumb kept us on our toes, falling behind 9-8. The Falcons answered with 3 straight singles, a Taxman double, an Arbour triple, and Cowboy's second inside-the-park home run in his last two games. I say let's propose a rule change so they count as dingers in the league home run race! John got on base with a two bagger, and Barry knocked him home, rounding the bases and getting the send signal from whoever was coaching third at the time, only to get gunned out at the plate. 7 runs from the Falcons and it's 15-9 for the good guys.
2 more runs for the away team in the 6th is all she wrote, as it was donuts bottom 6 and top 7. 15-11 is your final. Falcons are 5-0, baby.
GAME NOTES: Every Falcon had at least 1 R and 1 RBI tonight... Labrecque's no-show resulted in some unique defensive substitutions... Falcons defense depth chart trivia time... QUESTION: Who is the 5th string Falcons first baseman? ANSWER: Somehow it's Arbour, who miraculously only bobbled one play, and thankfully didn't screw up TWO double plays from his much-more-comfortable-at-their-defensive-positions SS Grahambo and 2B John... QUESTION: Who is the Falcons 5th string Right center fielder? It's Barry who played pretty well at one of the toughest spots on the field, except maybe for one play where as soon as the ball was hit Dunner yelled his trademark "BACK!", Barry yelled "My ball!" and the ball sailed a good 6 feet over Barry's head, as you could hear Dunn cracking up laughing LOL... At some point BIlly tripped over Todd's leg rounding third and ended up with a sore shoulder, the Falcons ironman is currently day-to-day, but of course laughed off all of our concern at wondering if he'd be ok in time for Sunday's doubleheader... A player from the previous game lost his car keys, and for an inning or two was walking around the outfield at the beginning of play with his wife I guess. I briefly wondered why there were 6 people in the outfield at the start of the 2nd or the 3rd...
