assignment Storm Squeaks One Out After One Bad Falcons Inning
Sunday 9:30PM May 31st, 2026
The Falcons squandered a lead late to go anti-undefeated in their Sunday doubleheader, losing 12-8 to Storm. The good news is that the pizza fund received a much-needed hot beef injection.
Another slow start plagued the Falcons, going 4-up, 3-down in the top of the first for the second straight game. The Storm plated three in their half, with Shohei's strategic unintentional intentional walks of Mills and Duran not going as planned as they both scored.
The Falcons answered to cut Storm's lead by 33% by manufacturing a run on a few singles. Storm answered back with another two to put them up 5-1 after two.
The visitors continued to chip away, scoring three in the third on nothing but walks and singles, the kind of hi-po offence the Falcons are known for. Pesky Storm added one of their own in the bottom half to keep their multi-run lead after three.
The fourth inning brought mixed blessings. Taxman/Mmm Bop opened with a single (yay!), and Shohei followed with a $5 contribution to the pizza fund via an FK (yay?). After the line-up turned over, singles by Speed Bump, John, and Time Out (still pending) scored three (yay!). A Beatty double (yay!) preceded a Dunner line-out to Joey (boo!) with a runner on third with less than two out to add another $5 to the pot (yay!). All said and done, it was an emotional roller coaster hilly enough to make you throw up delicious pizza that gave the Falcons a 7-6 lead. Storm couldn't push a run across, so after four, the Falcons had the lead.
The fifth inning saw the Falcons put up another run after a Poutine double (yay!) was scored by a Shohei single, but not before Taxman/Mmm Bop stranded Pou at third momentarily for a $5 pizza fine. (yay? Boo? I don't even know what to think anymore)
A doughnut and two more pizza contributions from the Falcons led into the bottom of the sixth, where Storm plated six runs to take a lead they wouldn't relinquish. A generally well played game squandered by one bad inning.
GAME NOTES: Big shout out to Speed Bump for gunning down two runners over the doubleheader, one at third and another trying to score... Father time remains undefeated, with the latest examples of Poutine's shoulder, Dunner's continued 0-fer, and the generally unfathomable demotion of Storm's Joey to 8-hitter in their line-up. Joey was replaced at the top of the order by none other than his own damn kid, who showed he deserved to be there by going 0-for-3, while Joey had 2 RBIs.
