assignment Falcons Hang On In Nail-biter
Sunday 5:00PM June 7th, 2026
The Falcons hung on to open their Sunday afternoon doubleheader with a 13-10 win over President's Division rival Broadway. The history of Falcon anus-clenching is a sine wave. Lately, a 10-run lead in the seventh is pretty safe, even when the opponents' bats get going. It wasn't that long ago that the faithful would get puckered-up under the same scenario. And going back to the 2009-2013 glory days, the fans would begin to pack up and leave before the end of the game, knowing such a lead would be safe.
So where are we these days? Are we at the top of the wave, with nary a care in the world with a big lead and only three outs to go? Are we just getting a glimpse of how things will look for the future? Have we seen the peak and it's in the rear-view mirror?
While you contemplate getting a peek of an anus in your rear-view mirror, let's go over how we got to this point:
It was a beautiful day for baseball. Warm, sunny, though you wouldn't have known it from Homie's autumn-walk-in-the-park fit. Who wears fake leather in 30-degree heat? The visiting Falcons got the bats going early. Barry Guerrero Jr's single was scored by 0-for-Dunner's base hit, as he continues his dismount from the schneid. In the second, Million Dollar Bill led off with a double and was scored a few batters later by quote-unquote ringer Kevin. And thanks to some tidy defence, the Falcons led 2-0 after two.
In the third, Time Out (that's Matt, for those who are trying to remember) led off with a triple, and he was immediately scored by John's single. Dunner doubled, his second of three consecutive ABs with a hit, and MDB sacrificed John in. Poutine followed with a two-run blast and when the dust settled, the Falcons were up 6-0 after three.
The defence held for most of the rest of the game, allowing only 3 runs until the seventh. In the meantime, the Falcon offence added another seven runs including a five-run fifth highlighted by Goliath's 3-run bomb.
So now we get to the anus-clenching. In the bottom of the seventh, Poutine took the mound to try to finish the game off. Facing the 7-8-9-10 hitters, who had collectively gone 2-for-8 so far, Pou started the inning getting Brad to ground out. Cool. But then Broadway went single, Jose home run, single, single, Hector home run. Jimmo lined out to right for the second out before they hit another couple singles that were scored by President Ryan's double. Were the fans sweating? Probably, since it was only Homie since Kevin's family had long deserted him for the playground, and Homie was dressed for a blizzard. After allowing seven runs, the lead was down to three with two out and Ryan on second, and Broadway sending their 11th man of the inning to the plate.
Poutine induced a flyout to end the game, and everyone relaxed.
GAME NOTES: How about our ump eh? Dude's an expert on spotting an Amish... Poutine was only a double away from the cycle.
