assignment Standing Room Only Crowd Leaves Happy

With the stands jam-packed for this Father's Day Pizza Night, the Falcons triumphed over Storm 20-5 to open the doubleheader.

The stands on the Falcons side were full. Parents of players, children of players, spouses of players came to watch what was once (and still might be) Whitby's most beloved slo-pitch team take on Storm, trying to avenge Storm's 12-8 win over the Falcons on May 31. In all, the official attendance was 28, which works out to 140% capacity! And the Falcons delivered for the fans, most of whom were smart enough to leave after the first game. But that will be explained in the next recap.

As for this one, it seems Storm continues to dabble with their batting order. In their last meeting, Joey had been relegated all the way down to 7th spot in the batting order, and in this one, he was leading off! Storm plated three in the top of the first, and it was on: would the Falcons be able to keep up, since Storm clearly came to play?

Early on, the answer was a definite yes. Later on, it was more of an all-caps YES, but we'll get there.

In remarkable symmetry with Storm's top of the first, Speed Bump flied out to left centre (same as Joey), then the next three batters scored (including two via the long ball: Time Out went deep matching Storm's Mills). In all, both teams sent seven batters to the plate and scored three runs. After one, it was tied 3-3.

That's as close as it would be the rest of the way.

After exchanging delicious doughnuts in the second, Storm again went scoreless in the third. The Falcons definitely did not go scoreless, posting a MAX6 on four singles, and a couple doubles and walks.

Storm came back in the top of the fourth to score two on Bob's solo shot, and Mills scoring from first on a single, something we see far too often and remain very jealous of his ability to do so. In response, the home side strung some hits together to win the inning scoring three runs. After four, the Falcons led 12-5.

After blanking a frustrated Storm in the fifth, the floodgates opened. Eight of the first ten Falcons to the plate reached base in the bottom of the fifth, scoring eight runs and putting this game out of reach.

GAME NOTES: 28 fans is a record crown for the Falcons, let's hope that can continue... The Ringer hurt himself again, turning attention to Speed Bump's neglected off-season research... Time Out's family needs to come to all the games, if they can keep up with the world class chirping of their own guy... Let's also not forget that Duran's "home run" in the first inning, protested LOUDLY by Time Out, was generous to say the least. But kudos to Time Out for taking attention away from SLF's terrible throw into the dugout.

Boxscore:

Team 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 Final
Storm 3 0 0 2 0 0 0 5
Falcons 3 0 6 3 8 0 X 20
