In what has become a theme of late, and not exactly a welcome one, the Falcons played a tight game and came out on top with a 15-14 win over Coulas.

Six of the past eleven Falcons games have been decided by one run or less, so if you're not coming to watch you're missing out on some exciting ball. The team is 6-4-1 in those same eleven games. We fumble as much as we cross the goal line, is what I'm trying to say (seven weeks until football season!)

In this weeknight tilt against the struggling Bone Crushers -- who were rocking new uniforms for the first time since Obama was president -- the Falcons also displayed some previously unwanted Falcon behaviour: Not bothering to score early.

Coulas came to play, and showed it early. They plated 4 in the top of the first, and after holding that lead, and the Falcons, to two runs in the bottom of one, scored 5 more in the second. In response, the home side sent five men to the plate and couldn't squeeze a run across. After two, Coulas was up 9-2.

The visitors didn't quit either. They kept adding to the lead, scoring a run in the third and another in the fourth, while holding the league's #3 seed to only a single run in response. Going into the open inning Coulas was ahead 11-3, and the home fans were talking about selling.

The fans were also talking about trading draft picks, and as it turns out they were talking about the Jays. That didn't stop the team from discussing a potential trade of Poutine involving draft picks, ie: maybe we could get someone to take him if we included some draft picks.

The momentum shifted in the fifth inning. Coulas put up their first doughnut of the night, and in the bottom half, the Falcon bats finally arrived. Speed Bump and Dunner both singled, and Three-League (trying something new here for John) knocked in a run with a double. Goliath followed with an RBI single, with Poutine matching. SLF sacrificed a run home for the first out of the inning, and Shohei got it back going with an RBI single. After a Taxman single, Glorious Dan doubled home a run, turning the lineup over. Speed Bump scored two more with his second single of the inning, and when it was all said and done the home side had plated eight runs to tie the game.

The Falcon defence got the meat of the Coulas order to go down without scoring in the top of the sixth, then the bats got going again to score four in the bottom of the sixth.

With a four-run cushion, the only thing left to determine was whether the Falcons would blow the whole lead, or win by one run. Coulas sent eight men to the plate, but could only score three of them to come up a run short.

GAME NOTES: Thanks once again to Glorious Dan for playing, making some fine put-outs behind the dish in addition to scoring a run and getting an RBI... Nine fans on a Wednesday night is pretty good... Three-league left his shoes at two-league, but didn't realize it until after the game... Shohei was Sho'ing off (HA!) some sweet pitching moves, striking out two and getting some wild swing-and-miss... For the second game in a row, we ran a guy out at 1B who doesn't usually play there. Where for art thou, Barry Guerrero Jr?
