chat_bubble 2022 WMSPL Power Rankings - Week 9

ALL HAIL THE EXPOS!!

The Power Rankings' new #1 team FINALLY got off a very long schneid this week and won their first game in franchise history. Sure, no one thought they'd finish the season winless, but I also think no one thought it would take this long to get victory #1 either. But here we are! It's time to celebrate!

#1. THE EXPOS
(1-15-1 Overall; 6th in Vice President's Division)
(Rank last week: 12)

As mentioned up top, The Expos finally won their first game. It's great that their positive attitudes have finally paid off and earned them the top spot in a rankings column that I'm almost positive they don't know exists. Maybe this will bring in a few new eyeballs.

#2. STORM
(15-4 Overall; 2nd in President's Division)
(Rank last week: 1)

Storm continues to do Storm things, and would be far and away the consistent number one in this column, as they completely expect to be, if it weren't for the pesky A's who keep on winning as well. The best news of 2022 for Storm: Their new terrific post-game podcast, the Stormcast, which is a must listen!

#3. A'S
(15-3-1 Overall; 1st in President's Division)
(Rank last week: 2)

The A's stay one spot below Storm in the rankings, despite leading the division by a half-game over them. This, at least for this week, is because the A's lost to Broadway this week. If I'd more time to write, I'm sure these two teams would be flip-flopping back and forth between one and two. Sigh.

#4. TRIPLE PLAY
(11-4-1 Overall; 1st in Vice President's Division)
(Rank last week: 3)

Triple play stays in queue, but drops a spot thanks to the new #1. They've opened up a 3.5 game lead in the Vice President's division (4 in the loss column) with half their season to go and, having gone 5-1 in their last six games, don't seem to be showing any signs of slowing down.

#5. THE CREW
(10-6 Overall; 3rd in President's Division)
(Rank last week: 4)

The Crew dropped both ends of last weekend's doubleheader, but fought back to get back in the win column with a walk-off victory over the Falcons two days later. With half their games played, they're 4 games back of the division leading A's (but only three in the loss column!), so they'll have to keep up this pace to have any shot at a Friday night bye in the playoff tournament.

#6. FALCONS
(11-8 Overall; 4th in President's Division)
(Rank last week: 6)

Since we last met, the Falcons extinguished Storm's 11 game winning streak flame, lost the other end of that doubleheader, won some, and lost some (some in heartbreaking fashion. The most exciting thing upcoming for them is Million Dollar Bill's streak-breaking doubleheader at the beginning of August. Hope to see you there!!

#7. BROADWAY
(8-8-1; 5th in President's Division)
(Rank last week: 7)

Broadway didn't move in the rankings, but have managed to get back to .500 on the season.

#8. THE BUELLERS
(8-8-1 Overall; 2nd in Vice President's Division)
(Rank last week: 5)

The Buellers have won two straight to get back to .500 on the season, and sit in 2nd place in the Vice President's division. They're 3.5 games back of the leading Triple Play squad so if they hope to catch up they'll need to string a few wins together in their 15 remaining games, and get hope for some losses by Triple Play.

#9. ISOTOPES
(7-11-1 Overall; 3rd in Vice President's Division)
(Rank last week: 8)

History will remember the 2022 Isotopes as the team that gave up The Expos' first franchise win.

#10. COULAS BONE CRUSHERS
(6-12-1 Overall; 4th in President's Division)
(Rank last week: 11)

Coulas jumps a spot thanks mostly to Hanet's continued attendance issues.

#11. HANET PLASTICS
(6-12 Overall; 6th in President's Division)
(Rank last week: 10)

Hanet has lost 3 in a row and four of their last six, two of which are by default. Hate to sound like a broken record, but it's not like come playoff time they'll still be ranked this low. Once the team shows up, the team wins.

#12. SURGE
(5-12-1 Overall; 5th Vice President's Division)
(Rank last week: 9)

Surge drops to the rankings' basement having lost 2 in a row and is winless in their last six games. All that remains to be seen for Surge is their playoff seeding.
