assignment Falcons Win Fifth Straight
Sunday 8:00PM August 18th, 2019
The Falcons rode one big inning to a 29-16 win over President's Division leading Storm in game one of their Sunday night doubleheader.

With rain falling, the Falcons took the field for the top of the first, hoping to shut down Storm's potent offence. Well, that didn't happen. Like a machine, Storm went to work: Single, single, Joey dinger. Single, single, Lance dinger. Six batters up, six runs in before the Falcons could record a single out. Three hits later, Storm had added another run and lead 7-0 before the Falcons had even seen a pitch. Game over after half an inning, right?

Storm: Scores seven runs in the top of the first.
Falcons: "Hold my beer..."

Three of the first five Falcons batters hit doubles, scoring two. Then, in a theme that would present itself in a big way later, the Falcons scored 4 more with two out. Home runs by Teets and Dunner (first swing with the new bat!) mopped up hits by The Mattural and Miner Leaguer and after one, the game was tied at sevens.

Ever confident, Storm plated two more in the top of the second inning to re-take the lead, and held the Falcons scoreless in the bottom half.

The Falcons retired the first two Storm batters in the top of the third, but a Rene double was followed by an RBI single by Brad, and Storm had a three-run lead. It was the last they would hold it.

Million Dollar Bill lead off the bottom of the third, popping out to a mysteriously clean-shaven Joey at short. King Grahambo followed that up with a $5 FK, and it looked like the Storm took the wind out of the Falcons sails, like they'd done so many times before.

Not this time.

Band Camp socked a double, and scored on The Mattural's RBI single. Teets hit his second two-run blast of the game, and the Falcons had some momentum. The Falcons hit two triples and a boatload of singles, and when it was all said and done, all but three Falcons had batted twice in the bottom of the third inning and they'd scored 17 runs.

The Falcons have been in the situation where they've given up a butt-ton of runs, only to come up in the next inning and go three-up, three-down, so the Falcons could empathize when that very thing happened to Storm. The Falcons held Storm to seven batters over the fourth and fifth innings, and even Joey began booting balls. Storm pulled it together in the sixth and seventh, scoring three runs in each, but it wasn't enough.

Two Home Runs In One Inning Watch: The last time a Falcon hit two home runs in one inning was June 14, 2019.

Two Triples In One Inning Watch: The last time a Falcon hit two triples in one inning was June 11, 2019.

Free Beer Watch: It's been since June 7, 2016. FIVE in a row!

Game notes: Scoring 17 runs with two outs eclipses the previous Falcons record of 12, set "two years ago", per Leon, but I can't find it... The 17-run third inning for the Falcons was enough to win on its own... Dunner was a single away from the cycle. How can you not get the single?!?... Dance Dad's first at-bat, where he flailed wildly at three straight pitches (after taking the first one), was a valuable lesson for him. He learned quickly, though, pounding out solid singles the rest of the game... The Falcons' five game winning streak is their longest of the season.
